Anthony R. Campbell has resigned as a director of the board of Magna Entertainment Corp., the third director to leave the company in a month, and the second in the span of five days. In separate filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission, company officials said they were engaged in discussions over potential "in-court or out-of-court" reorganizations.

Dates Approved for New Detroit Racetrack

Michigan's racing commissioner approved on Oct. 31 the 2008 dates for a new racetrack to be built near Detroit. The track, named Pinnacle Race Course, was granted 63 days of live racing beginning July 18. The 10,000-seat racetrack project, near the Detroit Metro Airport, includes 200,000 square feet of retail developement.

With a first-quarter earnings report that shows net income of $2.2 million versus a net loss of $4.1 million for the same period a year earlier, Magna Entertainment Corp. is rebounding from what company officials called a very tough year in 2005, officials said.

McAlpine Appointed Magna President/CEO

Magna Entertainment Corp. appointed its third president and chief executive officer within a year. The Magna board appointed Jim McAlpine today as the company's president and chief executive officer. McAlpine was executive vice president of non-automotive affairs for Magna International, MEC's parent company and automotible parts manufacturing company founded by MEC chairman Frank Stronach.
