Falbrav Draws Post 5 for Hong Kong Cup

Falbrav, who figures to be the even-money favorite for Sunday's Hong Kong Cup (HK-I), drew post 5 in the 14-horse field Thursday morning at the barrier draw held at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong. The HK$18 million (approximately $2.3 million U.S.) Hong Kong Cup is the star attraction of the Hong Kong International Races, which also includes the Hong Kong Vase, Sprint, and Mile (all HK-I).

Morshdi Wins Italian Derby

Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum's Morshdi took the lead with just over a furlong to run and pulled away to a 2 3/4-length victory over Falbrav in Sunday's Derby Italiano (Ity-I) at the Capannelle. Iberus came home third, three lengths farther back, with Vinnie Roe fourth of the 19 runners.

Michael Jarvis-trained Ameerat dueled for the lead with Muwakleh through the final furlong of the one-mile Sagitta One Thousand Guineas (GB-I) Sunday at Newmarket, earning a neck-length victory in the first British Classic of the year for fillies. Ameerrat's win earned Jarvis his first British classic wins and the third for jockey Philip Robinson.
