Grade I winner It's A Giggle, America's third-leading steeplechase horse of 2002, died late last week after a short bout with colic.
Nancy Gerry's Flat Top slammed the door shut on a
steeplechase championship with a game victory over Tres Touche in Sunday's $100,000 Marion du Pont Scott Colonial Cup (gr. I) at Springdale Race Course in Camden, S.C.
Sunday's grade I steeplechase the Colonial Cup has 11 entries, including the four leading candidates for the 2002 Eclipse in this category: All Gong, Flat Top, It's a Giggle, and Tres Touche. After the race, a new award will be given in honor of Lonesome Glory.
A field of eight is set for Saturday's $250,000 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase (NSA-I) at Far Hill Race Course in New Jersey.
Ten jumpers, including the race's two previous winners, pre-entered for the Oct. 19 Breeders' Cup Steeplechase (NSA-I).
One Breeders' Cup race will be decided a week before the Oct. 26 main event at Arlington Park. The Breeders' Cup Steeplechase will be run Oct. 19 at Far Hills Races in Far Hills, N.J.
