Split Samples Mistakenly Tossed in Kentucky

The state veterinarian for the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority mistakenly tossed out two split samples from two horses that had tested over the approved limit for the approved bleeder medication Salix. Because of the mistake, the investigation into the overages has been dropped.

CHRB Cites Biancone for Class 3 Violation

The California Horse Racing Board has filed a complaint against trainer Patrick Biancone for a Class 3 violation of medication regulations after post-race testing identified the presence of salmeterol in the urine sample collected from Iron Butterfly, a horse in his care.

Drug Positives Weren't Called, Kentucky Officials Say

A Kentucky legislative subcommittee, now squarely involved in the debate over changes to the state's equine medication policy, has requested records from the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority that are said to show officials with the old Kentucky Racing Commission didn't take action for drug positives called by the laboratory that conducted the tests.

Iowa State Recommended for Kentucky Testing

A Kentucky Equine Drug Council committee has recommended that Iowa State University handle equine drug testing in Kentucky beginning Jan. 1, 2002. The Kentucky Racing Commission will vote on the recommendation at a meeting Dec. 19 in Lexington.
