Battle Won, the lone American runner in the Dec.12 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Sprint (HK-I) at Sha Tin, drew post five in a field of 13 runners for the $10 million (HK) 1,000-meter (five furlong) race. The four-race Cathay Pacific Hong Kong International race card was drawn inside the new $410-million (HK) retractable roof walking ring at Sha Tin.

Silent Witness, unbeaten in seven starts Hong Kong, drew post 11 for Sunday's Hong Kong Sprint (HK-I). The Tony Cruz-trained runner will likely be the even-money favorite in the 14-horse field. The five-furlong race is run down a straightaway at Sha Tin Racecourse. In the 1 1/2-mile Hong Kong Vase (HK-I), likely favorite Imperial Dancer drew the outside post 14.

British Jockey Sidelined By Food Poisoning

It was not a good morning for English trainer Jeremy Glover on Friday. First he discovered, George Duffield, the jockey for his Perryston View, had gone down with food poisoning and must be considered doubtful for the big Hong Kong Sprint on Sunday and then his horse bolted with his new jockey, John Reid, whilst hacking home during trackwork. Glover said: "I wanted my horse to trot back towards the quarantine barn but he took off with John when he started to hack and came back past me very fast. I thought he was going to go through the fence behind the 1000-metre start but luckily he stopped."
