Circle H Ranch Adds Strike Gold and Hollycombe

Circle H Ranch in Murrieta, Ca., will stand Strike Gold and Hollycombe for the 2002 breeding season. Hollycombe is beginning his stallion career for a fee of $3,000. The son of Capote, out of the Proudest Roman mare Confirm, is owned by John Toffan. Hollycombe's biggest race came at age five, when he won the grade II Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap, defeating Old Trieste.

Champion sprinter Kona Gold scored his second consecutive Bing Crosby Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. II) Sunday at Del Mar, defeating Caller One by three-quarter lengths in the $196,000 race. The win extends Kona Gold's current winning streak to seven races.

Only Three Challengers for Champion Sprinter

Eclipse Award-winning sprinter Kona Gold will face only three challengers when he carries top weight of 126 pounds in Sunday's grade II Potrero Grande Breeders' Cup Handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs. The Java Gold gelding, who carried 125 pounds to win the March 4 San Carlos Handicap, will be spotting the field from 11 to 16 pounds as he seeks his sixth consecutive victory.

A field of 11 older turf runners have entered for Saturday's 42nd running of the Frank E. Kilroe Mile on the Camino Real turf course. Formerly run as the Arcadia Handicap, the race was renamed in 2001 to honor longtime Southern California racing secretary 'Jimmy' Kilroe.
