Dr. Edwin W. Thomas of Lexington died early Friday morning in his sleep. He was 85.

Our Native Dies at 31

Our Native outlived two of his very famous contemporaries, Mr. Prospector, whom he defeated in the 1973 Calumet Purse, and Secretariat, whom he followed across the finish line in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I) and Preakness Stakes (gr. I) that year. But Our Native's age and health caught up with him on Aug. 26, when the 31-year-old stallion was euthanized at High Point Farm near Lexington.

High Point Farm in Ownership Dispute

High Point Farm could soon be on the auction block due to a disagreement between its owners, Caesar Kimmel and Dr. Edwin W. Thomas. Kimmel filed a civil suit in Fayette (Lexington, Ky.) Circuit Court on Jan. 8 asking the court to sale the property at public auction and to divide the proceeds equally between the two men. The farm lies between Calumet Farm and Old Frankfort Pike near Lexington.
