Trainer Charlie LoPresti contemplated the question, scuffed his work boots in the dirt a little, answered with a thoughtful air. "Wise Dan? He's every bit as good as where I had him last season."
Horse of the Year Wise Dan went out to the Oklahoma turf course at Saratoga Race Course the morning of July 27 and unleashed a sensational move in preparation for the Aug. 10 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT).
Trainer Charlie LoPresti said Morton Fink's grade II winner Successful Dan remains pointed toward the Aug. 3 Whitney Invitational (gr. I) at Saratoga, a race he missed last year after injuring his suspensory.
Defending Horse of the Year Wise Dan will likely target the Firecracker Handicap at Churchill, trainer Charlie LoPresti said May 23. His half brother, Successful Dan, is on track for the June 15 Stephen Foster there.

Guided by jockey Jerry Bailey, betting favorite Hap saved ground along the hedge, rallying through the stretch to win the $200,000 Fourstardave Handicap (gr. IIT) by 3/4-lengths Saturday at Saratoga.
