F-T to Sponsor Fountain of Youth Stakes

Fasig-Tipton is teaming with Gulfstream Park to sponsor the $250,000 Fountain of Youth Stakes (gr. II). The 63rd running of the race, which will called the "Fasig-Tipton Fountain of Youth Stakes," is scheduled for Feb. 28 in South Florida. Not much changed in the market for 2-year-olds in training at Fasig-Tipton Florida's select sale at Calder Race Course Tuesday. Compared to 2002, the gross revenue and average price both were down by only 1.4% while the buy-back rate decreased slightly, from 45.2% last year to 43.5% this year.

The auction had a strong catalogue; the horses worked fast; and virtually every major buyer of juveniles showed up or sent a representative. But when the final figures were calculated Tuesday, business was down across the board from a year ago.
