Ferguson Buys Arqana Sale Session Topper

Sheikh Mohammed's bloodstock manager, John Ferugson, who was the biggest spender at the recent Fasig-Tipton Saratoga select yearling auction, was busy again Aug. 14 during the opening session of the Arqana's Deauville August yearling sale in France. He bought the session-topping Storm Cat colt for 900,000 Euros ($1,282,860 in U.S. funds) from Etreham.

Dubawi Colt Sets Record at French Sale

A Dubawi colt, which is a member of his sire's first crop, set a sale record when he brought 280,000 euros (approximately $376,538) May 9 during the upbeat Arqana breeze-up auction at Saint-Cloud racecourse in France. Paul Nataf, acting on behalf of his longtime client Gérard Laboureau, purchased the colt from Willie Browne's Mocklershill operation.

Sarissa Tops Arqana February Mixed Sale

Sarissa, a 12-year-old Diesis - Wonderous Minstrel mare, brought the top price of 32,000 euros (approximately $40,489 in U.S. funds) during the Arqana February mixed sale at Deauville in France. French agent Abeth Mussat purchased her from Haras d'Etreham. Sarissa, who is in foal to Dylan Thomas, has produced two winners in Japan, Rock of Sarissa (by Rock of Gibraltar) and Loulan Reverse (by Montjeu).

Deauville Average Falls, Gross Up

The fourth and last day of Arqana's Breeding Stock Sale in Deauville, France, on Dec. 11, saw gross sales reach 17,595,000 euros ($25,814,680), marginally up on the 17,452,000 euros ($25,604,876) in 2006. Because more mares and fillies were offered, the average slipped 7% to 33,198 euros ($48,707).
