The National Thoroughbred Racing Association announced Jan. 11 that the breeders of horses that won Breeders' Cup World Championships races at last November's event will be recognized at the Eclipse Awards ceremony.
For the seventh consecutive year, TVG will air the Eclipse Awards dinner from the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel on Monday, Jan. 17.
Mineshaft was named 2003 Horse of the Year at the 33rd annual Eclipse Awards, but it wasn't easy taking the spotlight away from Funny Cide, the New York-bred gelding who generated so much publicity during his memorable Triple Crown run last spring and was voted an Eclipse Award as outstanding 3-year-old male.

Teamwork and dedications were a central theme at the 31st annual Eclipse Awards dinner, a black-tie event held Monday night at the Fontainebleau Hilton Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla., where champion 3-year-old colt Point Given was crowned 2001 Horse of the Year.
Because of construction problems that have delayed the opening of the Westin Diplomat Resort and Spa in Hollywood Fla., the 31st annual Eclipse Awards Dinner is being moved to the grand ballroom at the Fontainebleau Hilton Resort in Miami Beach.
The Eclipse Award dinner honoring champions of 2000 has been changed to a new date and location, according to the National Thoroughbred Racing Association. Originally scheduled for the New Orleans Ritz-Carlton on Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, the dinner will be held one day later, Jan. 30, at the Saenger Theatre, also in New Orleans.
