Churchill Downs has unveiled a $9.025 million stakes schedule for its 2010 Spring and Fall racing meets in 2010. The schedule includes six grade I races and the return of the La Troienne Stakes.
Board members of the Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association did not discuss complaints from trainers regarding an Oaks/Derby ticket provision agreement between the Kentucky HBPA and Churchill Downs at their May 15 meeting as originally planned. Instead, the Kentucky HBPA will conduct an independent investigation into the matter.
Foreign horsemen who wish to ship their Thoroughbreds to compete in the Kentucky Derby, Kentucky Oaks and other races at Churchill Downs will benefit from an on-track quarantine and isolation facility now located on the grounds.
Churchill Downs has announced a stakes schedule for its Spring and Fall racing meets in 2007 that features a record $11.3 million in purses for 47 stakes events, including a Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) program May 5 that offers record purses of $3.35 million and five supporting stakes races. The schedule is the first in track history to surpass $11 million in total purses.
Churchill Downs will accept entries for races during its upcoming Oct. 29-Nov. 25 Fall Meet and subsequent race meets three days in advance of those races.
The 129th running of Churchill Downs' historic Clark Handicap (gr. II) will also be its richest as the track has raised the purse for this year's renewal by $100,000 to $500,000-added.
Some trainers who are likely to have horses compete in this year's Belmont Stakes on June 7 are criticizing a decision by the New York Racing Association to have all entrants in the classic stabled in a single barn the day before the race.
When the 128th Kentucky Derby is renewed May 4 at Churchill Downs, the field assembled will become the first in the history of the race to wear color-coded saddlecloths.
