Dream Trip for Pays to Dream in Dixie

Pays to Dream continued a big weekend for New York-bred horses in Maryland May 17 when he rallied from well off the pace and blew away the competition in the grade II Dixie Stakes on the turf at Pimlico Race Course.

The top-weighted runner in the $250,000 Dixie Stakes (gr. IIT) at Pimlico May 17 is coming off a sixth-place finish, while his closest competitor also ran sixth in his last start. That leaves a chance at graded earnings readily available to seven other runners in the 1 1/8-mile turf event on the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) undercard.

Will Silver Tree Shine in Dixie?

An accomplished field of 12 older males will contest the May 19 Dixie Stakes (gr. II) at Pimlico. Leading the list in earnings is millionaire Silver Tree, who will be looking to bounce back after an unplaced effort in the April 7 John B. Connally Breeders' Cup Turf Handicap (gr. IIIT).

Pace Assured, Better Talk Now Back in Dixie

After watching Better Talk Now's grand stretch kick compromised by a slow pace in last year's $250,000 Comp USA/Toshiba Dixie Stakes (gr. IIT), trainer Graham Motion is more surprised than anyone that he will saddle the 2004 Breeders' Cup Turf (gr. IT) champion for Saturday's Pimlico renewal.

Defending Champ Dukes it Out in Dixie

Quiet Resolve won last year's Dixie Stakes (gr. IIT) by a nose last year over Haami and Holditholditholdit. The 2001 edition of Pimlico's grade II turf event doesn't look to be any easier. Holditholditholdit is back, and joining the fight for Saturday's $200,000 race is North East Bound, who in his last start defeated Quiet Resolve and six other horses in Keeneland's Maker's Mark Mile Stakes (gr. IIT).
