Looking inside the 2010 yearling average numbers
Urban Sea, winner of the 1993 Ciga Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) and a Broodmare of the Year in England and Ireland, died March 2.
Donnie Snellings has been hired as yearling and sales manager at Denali Stud after holding a similar position as Mill Ridge Farm for over 20 years. He will take over the position March 1.
Craig Bandoroff, owner of Denali Stud near Paris, Ky., has hired Savannah Short as the farm's director of sales.
While the second-session figures weren't as lofty as the numbers from Aug. 9, Fasig-Tipton's sale of preferred New York-breds finished it's two-night run Sunday evening with an overall average price that was 5.4% higher than last year.

Despite large declines in gross sales and average price, there were some positive signs indicated during the two select sessions of the Keeneland September yearling sale.
Champion Serena's Song, who raced for Robert and Beverly Lewis, produced her ninth foal March 5. Bob Lewis died Feb. 17.
The marathon Keeneland September yearling sale got a quick start out of the gate Monday with a strong session in which the gross, average, and median prices were well above figures for the comparable session one year ago.
A record price for a broodmare offered during the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky winter mixed sale was established Feb. 14 at the sale company's Newtown Paddocks near Lexington, Ky. when North Hills Management went to $370,000 to acquire grade II winner Sweet Win.
It may have lacked a seven-figure lot, but Tuesday's second breeding stock session of the Tattersalls December Sale at Newmarket, England saw a fantastic trade resulting in figures that just fell short of the same day 12 months ago.
Robert and Beverly Lewis' champion Serena's Song produced a Storm Cat colt Feb. 27 at Craig and Polly Bandoroff's Denali Stud near Paris, Ky.
