Keeneland Benefit for Disabled Jockeys

Some leading current and retired jockeys will test their karaoke skills against each other during an April 17 talent competition at the Keeneland Entertainment Center. The event, titled "Riders Up!," will benefit the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund of the Jockeys' Guild.

8 Retired Jockeys in Pari-Mutuel Race

Eight Hall of Fame jockeys - with combined earnings of over $1.5 billion from 49,163 victories - will compete in a pari-mutuel wagering event, "The Living Legends Race," on Oct. 18 during the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meet as a prelude to the following weekend's Breeders' Cup World Championships.

Churchill Unveils Statue of Pat Day

A bronze statue of Hall of Fame Jockey Pat Day, his arms raised in triumph, was unveiled during a noon ceremony Sunday at Churchill Downs. The sculpture, created by Louisville artist Raymond Graf, was inspired by Day's victory in the 1992 Kentucky Derby (gr. I) aboard Lil E. Tee.

Fined Derby Jockeys File Lawsuit

A lawsuit was filed in Kentucky circuit court Friday by 13 of the jockeys fined by Churchill Downs stewards for wearing a Jockeys' Guild patch during this year's Kentucky Derby (gr. I). The suit asks for a reversal of the stewards' decision, which was upheld by the Kentucky Racing Commission in early October, on the grounds it is unconstitutional.
