Legendary English bloodstock agent Joss Collins, whose sale ring purchases included Nureyev and the record-priced Seattle Dancer, died Feb. 8 at age 56.
An Irish bloodstock agent and his British client continue racking up defaults at major sale companies around the globe. British businessman Bobby Killoran has defaulted on six yearlings bought for $1.12 million through Agence Francaise in August. Killoran has failed to pay for more than $4.6 million worth of horses bought at Keeneland, Fasig-Tipton, and Tattersalls since July. All the horses were bought by agent and former jockey Paul Collins.
Three weeks later and with an extra furlong to race, the results remain the same as Flame Thrower reprised his wire-to-wire performance from last month's Del Mar Futurity (gr. II) to win the one-mile $200,000 Norfolk Stakes (gr. II) by a neck over the late-charging Street Cry Saturday at Santa Anita. In the seven-furlong Futurity, Flame Thrower just lasted to best Street Cry by a head.
