Penske to Sponsor Breeders' Cup Sprint

Penske Auto Centers has entered into a sponsorship of real horsepower. The company announced today it is sponsoring the Breeders' Cup Sprint (gr. I) and a series of prep races for the Oct. 27 race at Belmont Park on World Thoroughbred Championships Day.

Officer, Habibti to Have Championship Preps at Oak Tree

Coolmore Team Pledges 10 Percent of Earnings To NTRA Relief Fund

Coolmore principal John Magnier and fellow Thoroughbred owner Michael Tabor are following the lead of fellow owner Tracy Farmer with a pledge to contribute a percentage of any of their horses' winnings from the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at New York's Belmont Park to the NTRA Charities -- New York Heroes Fund. The fund will assist the spouses and children of the New York City firefighters, police, emergency service personnel, and other victims of the World Trade Center disaster on Sept. 11.

Pentatonic Upsets Secret Status in Belmont Allowance

Pentatonic and Secret Status, who had hoped to hook up in the Ruffian Handicap (gr. I) last Saturday, instead ran at Belmont Park today in an allowance race. The Ruffian, a prep for the Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I) was part of a card canceled at Belmont after the terrorist attacks Sept. 11 on the World Trade Centers.

Breeders' Cup officials on Monday afternoon affirmed plans to conduct the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park in New York. Rumors have circulated recently that Breeders' Cup was discussing a possible move in light of the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on New York City.

World Thoroughbred Championships Dedicated to 'New York Heroes'

The Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships at Belmont Park in Elmont, N.Y. on Oct. 27 will be dedicated to the families of New York firefighters, police officers, emergency services personnel and other victims in the surrounding communities who lost their lives as a result of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11. A special fund of NTRA Charities, with a minimum goal of $1 million, will be established by NTRA and NYRA. to receive contributions.

Championships Scheduled Through 2005

Breeders' Cup has officially mapped out a provisional schedule of host sites for the World Thoroughbred Championships through 2005, though racetrack selection is contingent upon many factors. Two tracks -- Arlington Park and Lone Star Park -- would be first-time host sites.

Reports: Breeders' Cup to Lone Star Park, Arlington

According to two published reports, directors of the Breeders' Cup Ltd. have approved plans for the World Thoroughbred Championships to be held at Arlington Park next year and Lone Star Park in Texas in 2005. Neither track has hosted the Breeders' Cup races and both had made presentations that were well-received by Breeders' Cup personnel.
