New York Enacts Pre-Race 'Milkshaking' Tests

The New York State Racing and Wagering Board voted Jan. 19 to adopt an emergency rule allowing for the collection of pre-race blood samples from horses entered into races at the state's Thoroughbred and harness tracks to test for excess alkalizing agents (milkshaking).

Hoosier Park Opens Saturday With Full Fields

Hoosier Park is set to open its 60-day Thoroughbred meeting Saturday and if entries for the opening weekend are any indication, the Anderson oval could have a strong meet. A total of 14 races are carded for opening night, with 10 of the 11 Thoroughbred events attracting full fields.

Violette Cleared in Colt's Blood Gas Positive

The first horse to exceed the established limit of 37 millimoles in New York Racing Association's new blood gas testing program has been cleared through a second battery of tests over a three-day quarantine period conducted in the race day security barn at Belmont Park.
