Cees Stable's Cee's Elegance scored her first stakes victory Sunday at Hollywood Park, surprising heavy favorite Super High with a romping win in the $100,000-added Cat's Cradle Handicap for California bred fillies and mares.
Team Valor's Bella Bella Bella, will make her first start since April Sunday in the $100,000-added Cat's Cradle Handicap for California-bred fillies and mares at 7 1/2 furlongs at Hollywood Park.
Action is on the upswing again for trainer Simon Bray, who awaits English import Secret Garden at Hollywood Park for the $125,000 Matiara Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday.
You relaxed off the early pace, then kicked in gear in the stretch to win the one-mile, $200,000 Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) by a length over Habibti on Sunday at Santa Anita. Under Jerry Bailey, You covered the distance in 1:36.84 on a fast track to notch her second career grade I victory.
The Thoroughbred Corp.'s Habibti, who is an Eclipse Award finalist in the 2-year-old filly catageory, returns to the races after a two-month absence in Sunday's Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) at Santa Anita Park. Another 2-year-old filly Eclipse Award finalist, You, is also expected to start in the Las Virgenes.
Jerry Bailey will have the opportunity to log more frequent flyer miles next weekend, when the jockey will fly to California from his South Florida base for the fourth straight weekend. Bailey will ride Bobby Frankel-trained You in the Feb. 10 Las Virgenes Stakes.
Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT) winner Val Royal continued working toward his return to the races Thursday at Santa Anita and Ashland (gr. I) and Mother Goose Stakes (gr. I) winner Fleet Renee worked five furlongs on fast dirt at Tapeta Farm. Others working Thursday were Printemps; Bella, Bella, Bella; Crafty C. T.; Griffinite; Sarah Lane's Oates; and Silver Charm's half-sister by Deputy Minister, Elrose.
Team Valor's Bella Bella Bella raced wide around both turns, then dueled with Tamarack Bay through the stretch to win Sunday's $105,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III) by a neck. Later on the card, Mountain Rage closed from ninth-place to win the $75,000 Hill Rise Stakes on a firm turf course.
Team Valor's Bella Bella Bella has bent sent off favored in both her career starts and that trend will likely continue in Sunday's $100,000 Santa Ysabel Stakes (gr. III). Golden Ballet Stakes winner Bella Bella Bella will face just three rivals -- one per Bella -- in the 1 1/16-mile Santa Ysabel, two maiden winners and the maiden Gaslamp Girl.
