Former Hollywood Park president Rick Baedeker has been unanimously selected as the executive director of the California Horse Racing Board, commission chairman Chuck Winner announced Jan. 16.
The Inglewood City Council, as expected, gave final approval on July 8 to several zoning and specific plan amendments allowing the owners of Hollywood Park to replace the track with a massive real estate development.
The Inglewood City Council approved a final environmental impact report and a significant land use revision June 3 that would allow the conversion of the 238-acre Hollywood Park racetrack site to a mixed use development.
Final action on a redevelopment plan for Hollywood Park could come as soon as May 26 after the Inglewood Planning Commission recommended approval to the City Council.

Officials maintained a taut no-comment stance on reports that Churchill Downs Inc. is close to a deal with the owner of Bay Meadows for the sale of Hollywood Park, but a spokesman for California's major trainers' organization expressed comfort in the news.
