Wasted Tears, trainer Bart Evans' homebred grade II winner, has been retired from racing to become a broodmare.
Always tough Wasted Tears returns to Southern California to defend her title in the $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes (gr. IIT) against a competitive field on the Del Mar turf Aug. 14.
Wasted Tears continued her dominance in the Ouija Board Distaff Stakes (gr. IIIT), winning the race for the third year in a row May 30 at Lone Star Park in Texas.
Proviso and Wasted Tears have yet to taste defeat in 2010. They face off against a tough field going a mile on the turf at Keeneland Oct. 9.
Wasted Tears, attempting her longest distance over a surface she had never tried, dug deep to defeat Lilly Fa Pootz by a desperate nose to register her 10th consecutive win on turf in Del Mar's $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes.
Shippers Wasted Tears, on a six-race winning tear, and Gozzip Girl, making her first appearance in Southern California since winning last year's American Oaks (gr. IT), head the field for the $250,000 John C. Mabee Stakes.
Win machine Wasted Tears produced another victory on the Lone Star Park turf with a repeat win in the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff Stakes (gr. IIIT) May 31, though it wasn't as easy as her 3-10 odds suggested it would be.
Seven stakes, including the $300,000 Lone Star Park Handicap and the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff Handicap (both gr. III), top Lone Star Million Day on May 31 at the Grand Prairie, Texas track.
Bart Evans' homebred Wasted Tears scored her fifth consecutive win--this one by far her biggest--as she went wire-to-wire under Rajiv Maragh holding off champion Forever Together by a half-length in the Jenny Wiley.
Courageous Cat, last seen finishing a close second to champion Goldikova in the Breeders' Cup Mile (gr. IT), stalked the early pace before taking the lead in midstretch and then held off a challenge to win the Canadian Turf.
Wasted Tears, undefeated on the Lone Star Park turf, took the field nearly all the way in winning the $200,000 Ouija Board Distaff Handicap (gr. IIIT) May 25 in track-record time in her graded stakes debut May 25.
The Pulpit filly will have to defeat 11 rivals Jan. 1 in the Tropical Park Oaks at Calder Race Course.
Breeders' Cup day started off with a bang, longshot Wishingitwas taking the D.R. Horton Metroplex Mile, the one stakes run at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie, Texas, prior to the eight World Thoroughbred Championship races.
