Strong Demand For Juveniles Continues at Barretts Sale

Strong demand for juveniles at public auction continued at the Barretts May Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training held May 17 at the Hinds Pavilion at Fairplex Park in Pomona, California. A total of 193 horses were reported sold for gross receipts of $7,663,700, an 8.6% jump over the same sale a year ago when 189 youngsters sold for a total of $7,053,000.

Barretts May Catalogue Has 356 Horses

Barretts has catalogued 356 horses for its May sale of 2-year-olds in training. The auction is scheduled for May 17 at Fairplex Park in Southern California. Under tack shows will be held on May 13 and 14.

$1.9-Million Songandaprayer Colt Tops Barretts Sale

Bob Lewis outlasted fellow Californian Sidney Craig in the bidding for a Songandaprayer colt at Tuesday's Barretts selected sale of 2-year-olds in training, paying $1.9 million for a horse who breezed a quarter-mile in what announcer John Henderson said was a world record time of :20.6 seconds.

Cat Fighter, winner of the La Canada Stakes (gr. II) at Santa Anita on Feb. 14, was purchased by John Sikura for $1.3-million to top the dispersal of horses of racing age owned by The Thoroughbred Corp. that preceded the Barretts March sale of selected 2-year-olds in training Tuesday in Pomona, Calif.

Barretts Sale Workouts Rescheduled

Due to weather and track conditions at Fairplex, the training previews scheduled for Monday for horses consigned to the Barretts March sale of 2-year-olds in training and The Thoroughbred Corp. dispersal has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. (PT) Tuesday.

Barretts March Catalogue Includes 53 Thoroughbred Corp. Horses

Barretts has catalogued 175 horses for the regular portion of its March sale of 2-year-olds in training in Southern California. In addition, the auction will offer 53 head (including five juveniles) in a dispersal of horses of racing age by The Thoroughbred Corp.

Taste of Paradise Sets Barretts Winter Sale Record

Taste of Paradise, winner of the 2003 San Diego Handicap (gr. II), brought a Barretts Equine Ltd. January sale record price of $425,000 when purchased by David Bloom Monday during the first of two sessions at the sales company's Hinds Pavilion in Pomona, California.
