Trainer Mike Maker discovered some filling in the tendon of multiple graded stakes winner Dark Cove, and the morning line second-choice will scratch from the $400,000 American St. Leger Aug. 17 at Arlington Park.
The Illinois Racing Board Jan. 29 approved an increase in the purse for this year's Illinois Derby (gr. III) at Hawthorne Race Course and a renewal of the $400,000 American St. Leger started last year at Arlington.
Though the U.S. doesn't have a representative in the Nov. 25 Japan Cup (Jpn-I) at Tokyo Racecourse, in a way it can claim Jakkalberry. The son of Storming Home won the inaugural American St. Leger at Arlington Aug. 18.
