The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's 2009 Winter Mixed Sale begins Jan. 6 and a total of 613 horses are cataloged for the two-day sale, which begins with 264 horses in a Consignor Preferred Session. The single Open session is Jan. 7, with 349 horses cataloged. Both sessions begin at 11:00 a.m.

Turfway Park closed its 2008 Holiday Meet with slight increases in average daily handle both on-track and from all sources. Daily on-track wagering on Turfway races was $127,992, an increase of 0.3%, while daily all-sources wagering on Turfway races was $2,775,799, up 1.8%.

McLaughlin Watching Gayego For Godolphin

Kiaran McLaughlin has been training horses for the Maktoum family for 16 years, so when he was asked to "babysit" Arkansas Derby (gr. II) winner Gayego for a few weeks he had no problem at all. On Jan. 2, McLaughlin confirmed that Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin Stables had recently purchased the 4-year-old son of Gilded Time and he will be pointed to the $2 million Dubai Golden Shaheen (UAE-I) later this year.
