Del Mar Thoroughbred Club will serve up its richest and most prestigious stakes schedule ever during a 43-day stand between July 18 and Sept. 5. Just as it did last summer, the seaside gem will feature 30 major stakes events but they will be worth a record total of $7.25 million.

USDA Ordered to Halt Inspection of Horses for Slaughter

A federal district court ordered March 28 a shut-down of a U.S. Department of Agriculture program that allowed the slaughter of American horses for human consumption to be paid for by the slaughter houses. The program was put into place shortly after Congress voted in 2005 to cut federal funding for inspections of horsemeat.

Old Deuteronomy to Sell in Australia

Old Deuteronomy, who was scheduled to enter stud this year for $4,000 at John T.L. Jones III and Robert Trussell's Walmac Farm near Lexington, instead will sell at William Inglis and Son bloodstock sale in Australia April 16.
