World Gross Sales Mark Falls at Keeneland

Keeneland set a world record for gross sales at a Thoroughbred auction on Thursday when 10-day totals reached $385,707,000. The sale surpassed the world record mark of $384,349,900 set at last year's 14-day September sale.

Grade II Winner Caller I. D. Dead

Grade II winner Caller I. D. died Aug. 28 of a ruptured stomach at Three Way Farm near Nashville, Ill. The 17-year-old son of Phone Trick was purchased earlier in the month by Gregory Mathis and Shirley Ness, who are the majority owners of the farm. He was scheduled to stand in 2007 for a fee of $2,000.

Grade I Winner Linkage Dead

Grade I winner Linkage died of natural causes in early September at Joe Dand's Horizon Farms near High River, Alberta. The 27-year-old son of Hoist the Flag stood at Horizon Farms from 2005-2006 for a private fee.

Bejarano Plans Comeback Next Week

Jockey Rafael Bejarano, sidelined since Aug. 25 with rib injuries incurred at Saratoga Race Course, will return to riding at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. on Wednesday, Sept. 27, or Thursday, Sept. 28, in time for the Sept. 30 Kentucky Cup series.

With plans to expand and open its doors to more needy Thoroughbred horses, ReRun, Inc. has named Barbara Luna executive director. Established in 1996 in Kentucky, the non-profit has anticipated the increase in unwanted horses and the need to rehabilitate, rather than retire, former racehorses as the main reasons for the reorganization.

Lawyer Ron Tops Eight-Horse Super Derby Field

Lawyer Ron, whose only defeat in his last eight starts came in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I), was installed the 8-5 morning line favorite when eight 3-year-olds were entered for Saturday's $500,000 Super Derby (gr. II) at Louisiana Downs.
