RCI Convention: Unity is the Word

Unity was the buzzword during the opening session of the 72nd convention of the Association of Racing Commissioners International Tuesday. The conference, which unites the RCI with the North American Pari-Mutuel Regulators Association (NAPRA), is being held at the Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort near Albuquerque, N.M.

Woodbine to Install Polytrack in July

Officials at Woodbine Entertainment Group announced March 28 that the Ontario-based racing and entertainment company will install a Polytrack surface on its one-mile main dirt track at Woodbine. Construction is to begin in early July.

Trainer Jones to Make Delaware Park Home This Year

Trainer J. Larry Jones, who usually splits his stable between Prairie Meadows Racetrack & Casino in Iowa and Ellis Park in Kentucky after the close of the Oaklawn Park meet, will move his stable to Delaware Park for the 136-day meet that runs from April 22-Nov. 13.

The 16th annual Florida Thoroughbred Charities (FTC) fundraising auction March 19 at Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Plantation near Ocala, Fla., raised $122,140, a 75% increase over last year's gross of $69,410.

Kentucky Extends Comment Period on Wagering Hubs

The Kentucky Horse Racing Authority has extended its public comment period for new administrative regulations governing multi-jurisdictional wagering hubs, a law for which was passed in 2004. Two years later, no hubs are operating in the state.
