Cuba Added to Wood Mix; Value Plus Shipping In

Trainer Tom Bush confirmed Monday morning that Cam Allard's Cuba will run in Saturday's $750,000 Wood Memorial (gr. I) at Aqueduct. The Not For Love colt had been listed as a possible starter before working five furlongs in 1:01 2/5, breezing, over a "good" Belmont Park training track Sunday morning with blinkers on.

McGaughey, Zito, Skip Away Among Hall of Fame Finalists

Trainers Shug McGaughey and Nick Zito and 1998 Horse of the Year Skip Away are among the candidates for election to the National Museum of Racing's Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility, Museum president John T. von Stade announced Monday, April 4. More than 140 members of the racing media will vote on the Hall of Fame, and the one winner in each category will be announced via teleconference on May 25.

The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders' and Owners' Association, which believes the state's racing industry is at a crisis stage, has released an aggressive legislative agenda that takes aim at laws its says create an uneven playing field with other gambling entities. Still, it appears there isn't industry consensus on just how to proceed.

Veteran journalist Billy Reed has been hired by the Kentucky Environmental and Public Protection Cabinet, where he will be working mainly with the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority... The Race Track Chaplaincy of America and the Winners Federation have entered into a working relationship to coordinate their efforts in several areas to improve the lives of backstretch workers. The Race Track Chaplaincy of America was recently presented with the William H. May Award by the Association of Racing Commissioners International.
