Kentucky Harness Track Wants Quarter Horse Dates

Representatives from Kentucky's racetracks submitted their preliminary applications for 2004 racing dates to members of a subcommittee of the Kentucky Racing Commission Sept. 2. The Thoroughbred schedule is typical, but there are other proposed changes.

Forego Fund Established by TRF

Martha Gerry, who raced champion Forego, has helped the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation establish a fund in his name to help feed the more than 600 horses currently being cared for by the program.

Evangeline Downs' Overall Wagering Stable

Evangeline Downs in Carencro, La., concluded its 2003 meet with a nominal decrease in total wagering and a slight increase in attendance. The recently concluded meet was the last at the track before it has the opportunity to supplement purses with income from slot machine gaming. The new Evangeline Downs Racetrack and Casino is expected to open in St. Landry Parish in March 2004.
