Lady Carla Tops Tattersalls Wednesday Session

Ten-year-old Lady Carla, the 1996 Epsom Oaks (Eng-I) heroine, topped the penultimate day's business at Tattersalls' December Sale Wendesday when selling for 1,050,000 guineas ($1,896,300) to Timmy Hyde, owner of Camas Park Stud in Co Tipperary, and Coolmore Stud's Paul Shanahan.

John Gorham of Steeplechase Farm announced that grade I-winning millionaire Mandy's Gold has been retired to Robert N. Clay's Three Chimneys Farm near Midway, Ky.

Paolini Out of Hong Kong Cup

Mrs. Carde Ostemann-Richter's international star Paolini has been withdrawn from the Hong Kong Cup (HK-I) and will be replaced by local runner Blue Stitch. The $3.2 million Hong Kong Cup, run at 1 1/4 miles, is the centerpiece of the Hong Kong International Races to be held at Sha Tin on Dec. 14.

Illinois' Leading Sire on the Move

Unreal Zeal, who appears headed for his third consecutive leading sire title in Illinois, will stand in 2004 at Harvey and Nancy Vanier's Fairberry Farm near Waterloo.

Sharkey to Rockin' River in Iowa

Sharkey, whose three stakes winners have all won at Prairie Meadows, has been relocated to Fred and Wade Feuring's Rockin' River Ranch near Winterset, Iowa.
