Sexton Replacing Mordell as Arlington Park President

Steve Sexton, who left Lone Star Park in Texas earlier this year to become executive vice president of Arlington Park, has been named president of the suburban Chicago racetrack. The announcement was made by Thomas Meeker, chief executive officer of Churchill Downs Inc., which acquired Arlington in a stock merger last September, and by Richard Duchossois, Arlington's former owner and the largest individual shareholder of CDI stock.

It's You in Adirondack

After matching Cashier's Dream in the early going, it was all You in the $150,000 Adirondack Stakes (gr. II) at Saratoga. You covered the 6 1/2 furlong distance in 1:15.16 -- the fastest time for the Adirondack since the distance was changed to 6 1/2 furlongs in 1994. Cashier's Dream, the 3-5 favorite, was a neck back in second, with Magic Storm trailing the two speedsters 15 1/4-lengths farther back in third.

Positive Tests Lead CHRB to Warn Trainers About Herbal Products

An undisclosed number of positive tests for the Class 3 drugs phenylpropanoloamine and norpseudoephedrine has prompted the California Horse Racing Board to urge trainers to scrutinize any herbal products or food supplements they feed their horses. Fifteen trainers were notified on Aug. 9 by the board, asking them to avoid a specific herbal product.

Mula Gula Back at the Races

Grade II winner Mula Gula, who completed his first season at stud at Ron and Nina Hagen's El Dorado Farms near Enumclaw, Wash., has been returned to trainer Jerry Hollendorfer at Golden Gate Fields and has as his goal the Oct. 27 Breeders' Cup World Thoroughbred Championships. Owner Steven Gula has his eye on the Mile (gr. IT).

Pennwood Seeks to Purchase Atlantic City

Pennwood Racing, which owns Freehold Raceway and figures in the mix as New Jersey prepares to launch account wagering and off-track betting systems, is looking to expand its holdings in the Garden State with the purchase of Atlantic City Race Course.
