TVG Wins Approval to Operate Betting Hub

The Oregon Racing Commission on Friday approved an application by the TV Games Network for to operate a wagering hub. Currently, TVG wagers run through a hub operated by NTRA Services, a subsidiary of the National Thoroughbred Racing Association and marketing partner of TVG.

Paper Reports Stronach Interest in Proposed Ocala Track

The Ocala Star-Banner has reported that Magna Entertainment chairman Frank Stronach has asked to meet with members of the Ocala City Council about possible plans to build a racetrack in the Central Florida city. Two meetings reportedly scheduled with Stronach and Steve Gray, a local attorney representing him, were postponed.

Superior Court Judge Gives Baffert Stay of Suspension

Trainer Bob Baffert received a stay of the 60-day suspension he was given last Sunday by California Horse Racing Board stewards as a result of a positive test for trace levels of morphine in Nautical Look, a Baffert-trained runner who won a maiden race at Hollywood Park last May 3.

Horse Owner Sues Gulfstream Over Claim

A racehorse owner filed a lawsuit Thursday against the Gulfstream Park Racing Association for allegedly violating horse safety laws by letting an uncertifed animal be claimed from a race.

OTB Corp. Gets OK to Operate Racetrack

Western Regional Off-Track Betting Corp., which controls wagering in a huge, 15-county region in upstate New York, will be allowed to run harness races at Batavia Downs, which is located east of Buffalo. It is the first time an OTB corporation, which in New York are quasi-public agencies, will be permitted to operate a racetrack. Gov. George Pataki must sign the legislation.

Cat Standards Committee Upgrades Races

The International Cataloguing Standards Committee voted June 18 to upgrade 10 races in Dubai, three each in Japan and Singapore, and one in Hong Kong.

Racing and Breeding Caucus Holds First Meeting

The new Racing and Breeding Caucus met Thursday afternoon in Washington, D.C., for what the horse industry hopes was the first of many meetings that will raise the awareness level of legislators. About 20 people were present at the one-hour meeting.
