A transfer of about $650,000 in funds to Calder Race Course on June 12 has ended a dispute between Florida horsemen and Hialeah Park. The funds represent all but $57,000 -- the total of accounts with negative balances -- that remained in horsemen's accounts as of the May 22 closing of Hialeah.
The revamped NTRA Champions Series got off to a good start June 10 with an overnight rating of 1.7 and attracted 4% of the viewing market. Last year's version of the series on Fox collectively earned earned a 1.1 rating and a 3% market share.

The success of a charity promotion on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show has led National Thoroughbred Racing Association officials to consider a similar endeavor tied to this year's Breeders' Cup championship Oct. 27 at Belmont Park.
The Blood-Horse has learned that NBC's 2001 telecast of the Breeders' Cup October 27 will be lengthened to a five-hour program, representing an extra 30 minutes of coverage over previous years.
English stallion Salse, whose 16 stakes winners includes $2.3-million earner Luso, was euthanized in early June at a vet clinic because of a crumbling pedal bone.
The New England Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association was expected to withhold permission for Rockingham Park to send its live signal to other wagering facilities effective Wednesday. The move comes in response to an impasse in the group's negotiations with track management over simulcasting revenue splits.
