Caller One Sprints to Los Angeles Handicap Victory

Carolyn Chapman and Theresa McArthur's Caller One pressed a fast early pace and drew away in the stretch under a hand ride to win Sunday's $107,300 Los Angeles Handicap (gr. III) at Hollywood Park. Under jockey Corey Nakatani, 4-year-old Caller One completed the six furlongs in 1:08.35 on a fast track.

Mystic Lady Beats Males in Jersey Derby

Fantasy Stakes (gr. II) winner Mystic Lady set the pace and held off the late charge of Sir Brian's Sword to win the $100,000 Jersey Derby on Sunday at Monmouth Park. The 3-year-old daughter of Thunder Gulch, racing against males for the first time, completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.31 on a fast main track. Mystic Lady became the second filly to win the Jersey Derby, joining 1998 winner Who Did It and Run.

Affirmed Success Wins Muddy Renewal of the Jaipur Handicap

Weather wreaked havoc on the lone graded turf sprint on the New York racing calendar, as the $100,900 Jaipur Handicap was forced off the turf and run on the muddy main track on Sunday at Belmont Park. Under Jerry Bailey, Affirmed Success completed the seven furlongs in 1:21.69 to earn the hard-fought victory in the scratch-plagued race.

Morshdi Wins Italian Derby

Sheikh Ahmed al Maktoum's Morshdi took the lead with just over a furlong to run and pulled away to a 2 3/4-length victory over Falbrav in Sunday's Derby Italiano (Ity-I) at the Capannelle. Iberus came home third, three lengths farther back, with Vinnie Roe fourth of the 19 runners.

Monarchos Breezes Half for Belmont Stakes

Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos breezed a half-mile in :49 around the dogs at Belmont Park Sunday morning, galloping out five furlongs in 1:02, with exercise rider Bryan Beccia aboard. The son of Maria's Mon went his first quarter over the sloppy track in :25 1/5, then came home his final quarter in :23 4/5. Trainer John Ward said the colt may have one more work, at six furlongs, before the Belmont Stakes.

Imagine Gives O'Brien Irish Guineas Sweep

On Saturday, Aidan O'Brien-trained runners filled the top three finishing positions in the Entenmann's Two Thousand Guineas (Ire-I). 16-1 longshot Imagine completed the Irish Guineas double for the conditioner at the Curragh Sunday, winning the Entenmann's One Thousand Guineas (Ire-I) under jockey Seamus Heffernan. All told, O'Brien's runners took five of the top six finishing positions in the two races, with his Toroca coming home third in Sunday's race.
