Churchill Downs Moving Closer to Slot Advocacy

Churchill Downs executives say they are not advocating slot machines at Kentucky racetracks, but at a meeting Monday track president Alex Waldrop made a strong pitch for alternative gaming. Waldrop said alternative gaming was the best long-term solution to keep the racing industry in Kentucky growing, according to Louisville Courier-Journal.

Colonial Cup to Determine Steeplechase Champion

Like it has since it was created in 1970, the Colonial Cup will help determine the steeplechase Eclipse Award. The $100,000 stakes, to be run Nov. 18 in Camden, S.C., attracted 11 nominations including most of the major contenders for the year-end championship.

Adena Springs November Sale: SaleTrends Down

The annual sale of broodmares from Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm was held at Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Thursday night, with the top price of $225,000 paid by J. S. McDonald for Twist a Lime, a 9-year-old Copelan mare in foal to Touch Gold.
