Nelson Halts Playfair Simulcasting

Eric Nelson, the current operator of Playfair Race Course, has apparently shut down simulcasting at the track near Spokane, Wash., for two weeks. According to a story in Wednesday's local paper, the Spokesman-Review, Nelson said it's a "cooling off period."

Pimlico Offers Head-to-Head and Pick 4 Among Weekend's Wagers

Pimlico will offer a number of wagers this weekend beyond its usual win, place, show, and exacta bets. The Maryland Jockey Club will offer guaranteed minimum gross pools on its Pick 4 on Friday and Saturday, and will also offer head-to-head wagers both days.

Summer Colony Returns in Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff

Pimlico will kick off a stretch of four added-money events on Friday with the 8 1/2-furlong Pimlico Breeders' Cup Distaff Handicap (gr. III). The field is seven strong and includes grade I winner Summer Colony, who has not started since last year's Breeders' Cup Distaff (gr. I), and Smok'n Frolic, who ranks ninth in earnings among all North American-based horses.

E.K. Gaylord II has sold the Gaillardia Farm operation near Versailles, Ky., he founded in 2001 to his sister, Mary Gaylord McClean. In turn, McClean has listed the 179-acre property near Versailles, Ky., for $5.25 million.
