On The Run Farm's Running Tide remained undefeated Saturday at Delaware Park, winning the $250,900 Leonard Richard Stakes (gr. III) by three-quarters of a length over 13-1 Nothing Flat. 20-1 longshot The Sewickley Kid finished a neck farther back in third, with 4-5 favorite Easyfromthegitgo another neck-length back in fourth after a troubled trip.
Trained by Rodney Jenkins, the Leonard Richards marks Running Tide's fifth victory in as many starts and his second straight stakes win. On May 25, he won his first stakes race, taking the six-furlong Legal Light Stakes. He earned $150,000 for the win to boost his career earnings to $248,670.
Menacing Dennis finished fifth in the roughly run race, 2 1/4 lengths behind his fellow Preakness starter. Rumsplasher, Roger E, and Fireballer completed the order of finish. Mr. Mellon and Bag of Mischief were scratched.
The second choice in the eight-horse field, Running Tide paid $8.60, $4.80, and $4.60. Nothing Flat returned $10.60 and $6.40 and completed the $99 exacta. The Sewickley Kid paid $9.20.
A bay 3-year-old son of Run Softly, Running Tide was bred in Kentucky by Jonabell Farm and was purchased for $50,000 as a 2-year-old.
Under Ramon Dominguez, the winner completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.10 on a fast track. (Chart,
