La Jolla Handicap (gr. IIIT) winner Purely Cozzene and runner-up Duke of Green will renew their rivalry in the $300,000 Del Mar Derby (gr. IIT) Sunday at Del Mar. Purely Cozzene went wire-to-wire in the La Jolla under David Flores, who has the return call in the Derby. The 1 1/8-mile turf race drew a field of 10 3-year-olds.
New Story, a Dynaformer filly making her first North American start, will take on males once again. In her most recent start, she finished sixth against open company in the Prix du Haras de Fresnay-Le-Buffard-Jacques Le Marois (Fr-I), won by Atto Mile (gr. IT) morning-line second-choice Muhtathir. New Story, however, has yet to win in stakes company.
The field for the Del Mar Derby will consist of:
1 -- Generations, Corey Black
2 -- Designed for Luck, Yutaka Take
3 -- New Story, Tyler Baze
4 -- Credit Call, Ignacio Puglisi
5 -- Walkslikeaduck, Eddie Delahoussaye
6 -- Sign of Hope, Alex Solis
7 -- Schotis, Garrett Gomez
8 -- David Copperfield, Victor Espinoza
9 -- Purely Cozzene, David Flores
10 -- Duke of Green, Chris McCarron
