Gross, Average Increase Sharply at American Equine's Juvenile Auction

Business increased sharply at American Equine Sales' juvenile auction, which was conducted on Tuesday at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Calif. The 36 horses sold grossed $483,400 and averaged $13,428. The median was $10,250. Compared to a year ago, the gross, average, and median were up by 61.8%,34.8%, and 28.1%, respectively. This year's buyback rate was 40%, with 24 of the 60 horses offered failing to find new homes.

Smokette, a daughter of Smokester, brought the high price of $39,000. Consigned by Blue Sky Training Center, agent, she was purchased by Rancho San Miguel. Smokette was produced from a half-sister to grade III winner Black Jack Road.
