Manhattan Tops Belmont Day Undercard; Post Positions for Each Stake

Woodford Reserve winner Beat Hollow tops field for Manhattan Handicap.
Saturday's Belmont Stakes Day under card is a rich and varied assortment of four top quality stakes events. The $250,000 True North Breeders' Cup (gr. II) at six furlongs over the main track begins the major festivities. The Widener Turf course will host the $200,000 Just A Game Breeders' Cup (gr. III) for fillies and mares at 1-mile. The $200,000 Riva Ridge Breeders' Cup (gr. II) at seven furlongs on the main track is next. The focus then returns to the grass for the $400,000 Manhattan (gr. I) at 1 1/4 mile over the inner turf course.
Here is a rundown on the major contenders in each race:Manhattan Handicap (gr. IT):
Beat Hollow comes in off a sensational score in the Woodford Reserve (gr. I) on Kentucky Derby Day. The Bobby Frankel-trained son of Sadler's Wells will be reined by Alex Solis again. With Anticipation, who had a rough start and closed seven wide to finish second in the Woodford Reserve, will go out for trainer Jonathan Sheppard and jockey Pat Day. Hap, who finished third to the top pair last time out at Churchill Downs, will race for the Mott barn beneath regular rider Jerry Bailey.

Yankee Gentleman steps up into stakes competition for Bill Mott after a five-length, in hand allowance score at Belmont Park. The 3-year- old son of Storm Cat has been victorious in two of three lifetime starts. His only blemish came when he dumped jockey Jerry Bailey at the start of his second encounter. Warners, who finished second in the Bay Shore (gr. III), will race for Todd Pletcher. Day Trader, the swift son of Phone Trick, goes out for the Lukas barn.

: The 5-year-old Summer Note, who is undefeated in four starts, including a dead-heat victory with More Than Ready in the 2000 Hutcheson (gr. II) at Gulfstream Park, returns off a recent allowance score at Belmont Park for trainer Barclay Tagg. The D. Wayne Lukas-trained Yonaguska, winner of three graded stakes, makes his 4-year-old debut off some sizzling works in New York and Kentucky. The speedy and well traveled Explicit, who finished third in this event last year, again ships east for California-based trainer Ian Jory.

The 4-year-old daughter of Kingmambo is the winner of three graded stakes events, including the Garden City Breeders' Cup Handicap (gr. I) at Belmont Park. Stylish, the impressive winner of the Distaff Turf Mile (gr. III) on Kentucky Derby Day at Churchill Downs, will go out for Bill Mott. Bobby Frankel sends out Tates Creek, who captured the Jenny Wiley (gr. III) at Keenland in her last encounter.
