French champion and stallion Epervier Bleu died May 20 of a heart attack while covering a mare at Haras du Pin in France, according to the Racing Post. The 15-year-old son of Saint Cyrien sired six stakes winners and achieved his greatest success with jumpers.
Epervier Bleu, who was produced from the Abdos mare Equadif, was a champion for the late Daniel Wildenstein. He captured the 1991 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud (Fr-I) his championship season. The previous year, he was a group I winner and ran second in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe (Fr-I) and Prix du Jockey-Club (Fr-I).
