David and Jill Heerensperger's Millennium Wind, who won last year's Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) two years after his half-brother Charismatic was Horse of the Year, has been retired after reaggravating a tendon injury. The initial injury came when he was kicked in the 2001 Kentucky Derby (gr. I). Millennium Wind ran unplaced in the classic, then didn't start again until November. He had worked twice at six furlongs at Hollywood Park for trainer Dave Hofmans in preparation for his 4-year-old debut when the recent mishap occurred. Hofmans planned to start him in early June.The Heerenspergers bought Millennium Wind for $1.2 million at the 1999 Keeneland September yearling sale several months after Charistmatic won the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes (gr. I). Making his first start in November of 2000, Millennium Wind won at Hollywood Park, then ran second to Point Given in the Hollywood Futurity (gr. I).Millennium Wind (Cryptoclearance--Bali Babe, by Drone) started five times as a 3-year-old. He opened the season with a win in the Santa Catalina Stakes (gr. II) and won the Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (gr. I) in his final Derby prep. Sandwiched between them was a runner-up effort in the Louisiana Derby (gr. II).Bred by the Roach family's Parrish Hill Farm, Millennium Wind won three of seven starts and earned $769,920, The Heerenspergers have not decided where to stand Millennium Wind.
