Janis Whitham's Affluent, a grade I winner on dirt and turf, will attempt to break the $1-million mark in career earnings May 25 in the $200,000 Milady Handicap at Hollywood Park. The grade I race will be run at 1 1/16 miles on the main track.
Affluent worked a half-mile in :50.20 at Hollywood Park May 22 with regular rider Eddie Delayhousaye aboard. Trainer Ron McAnally said Affluent has been training well since her last start, which produced a second-place finish to Azeri in the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park.
Affluet, a 4-year-old filly by Affirmed, has won six of 14 starts for $954,800 in earnings.
Azeri, also 4, is among the expected Milady challengers. Other probable starters are Ask Me No Secrets, Cashmina, and Collect Call. Listed as possible are Elaine's Angel and Verruma.
In two Hollywood Park stakes scheduled for May 27, Astra, Snow Dance, Starine, and Voodoo Dancer are expected for the $500,000 Gamely Breeders' Cup Handicap for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles on the turf, while Decharchy and Ladies Din are probable for the $500,000 Shoemaker Breeders' Cup Mile on the turf.
