Khalid Abdullah's homebred Distant Music ended a three-month layoff in fine fashion Thursday, rallying in the final eighth of a mile to win the GNER White Rose Park Stakes (Eng-III) at Doncaster, England. The 3-year-old son of Distant View completed the mile over a good to firm turf course in 1:38.7 to defeat Valentino (by Nureyev) by a neck. It was three quarters of a length back to Cape Town (Desert Style), followed by 7-4 favorite Swallow Flight) and Barathea Guest.

The victory was the fourth in six career starts for the Barry Hills-trained colt. The colt was second in the Lane's End Greenham Stakes (Eng-III) and was unplaced in the Sagitta Two Thousand Guineas (Eng-I) before his break from the track. As a 2-year-old, Distant Music was undefeated, with his three victories including the Dewhurst Stakes (Eng-I) and Frigidaire Champagne Stakes (Eng-II).

According to Sporting Life, Distant Music may be pointed toward the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot later this month and could be kept in training in 2001 as a 4-year-old.
