Youbet.com broke its single-day handle record of $1 million following the Preakness Stakes (gr. I) on May 18. The online horse racing wagering service also has been regularly re-setting its record for weekly handle since April 22.
The company's previous one-day handle record was set May 4 in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby (gr. I). Youbet.com broke that record on Preakness day, though it didn't say by how much, and also reported that its weekly record handle had been exceeded by $500,000 from May 13-19.
"We enjoyed incredible success this week," said David Marshall, Youbet.com's chief executive officer. "The atmosphere was charged with excitement as our staff answered nearly double the number of customer service calls received on Derby day. We were ready for the volume, with an impressive average wait time on hold of only 65 seconds per call. We maintained the integrity of our network while once again exceeding our record for number of network users online simultaneously."
In other Preakness related news, Youbet.com is continuing to pickup national television exposure by putting ball caps with its logo on the heads of jockeys.
The hats were seen on winning jockey Victor Espinoza and on Richard Migliore, rider of second place Magic Weisner, Mike Smith who rode third place Proud Citizen, and Youbet.com spokesman Chris McCarron, the rider of Crimson Hero.
