Tranquility Lake will miss Saturday's Ramona Handicap (gr. IT) due to a fever. The 5-year-old mare was expected to be the favorite and highweight for the nine-furlong race at Del Mar, but she apparently suffered a spider bite and became ill.
Tranquility Lake won the Royal Heroine and the Palomar (gr. IIIT) stakes in her only two starts this year. She finished fifth in last year's Ramona, 3 1/2 lengths behind winner Tuzla. Tranquility Lake is trained by Julio Canani for Martin and Pam Wygod.
Still expected for the Ramona are Alexine, Caffe Latte, Keemoon, Miss of Wales, Sweet Life, and Tout Charmant. Listed as possible is Bordelaise.
Stonerside Stable's Tout Charmant put in a five-furlong work at Del Mar Wednesday morning, completing the drill in 1:01 2/5, handily. Tout Charmant has won two of three starts on Del Mar's turf course, winning the restricted Sandy Blue Stakes and Del Mar Oaks (gr. IT) as a 3-year-old. In her most recent start, the 4-year-old daughter of Slewvescent finished second to Tranquility Lake in the Palomar Handicap (gr. IIIT) at Del Mar last month.
