Kentucky Derby winner War Emblem took the second leg of the Triple Crown when he strode off to win Saturdya's Preakness Stakes over longshot Magic Weisner.

Ridden by Victor Espinoza, War Emblem stalked the early pace set by longshot Menacing Dennis before assuming the lead near the second turn. Proud Citizen, the Derby runner-up, closed gamely before being caught and passed by Magic Weisner near the wire.

The victory gives trainer Bob Baffert a third chance to win the Triple Crown, following in the Derby-Preakness doubles of Real Quiet and Silver Charm.

War Emblem paid $7.60, $6.00, and $4.40, while Magic Weisner was worth $33.00 and $14.00 and Proud Citizen returned $5.00 to show.
