Cannon Bone Fracture Sidelines Lusty Latin

Lusty Latin, 15th in the Kentucky Derby (gr. I), will be sidelined for about three months due to a hairline fracture of a cannon bone, according to trainer Jeff Mullins.

Mullins said the Rattlesnake Stakes winner and third-place finisher in the Santa Anita Derby is recovering at Hector Palma's farm in Bradbury.

Mullins is also considering running Turf Paradise Derby winner Captain Squire in the seven-furlong Lazaro Barrera Memorial Stakes May 27 at Hollywood Park. Captain Squire raced on turf for the first time earlier this month, finishing second in a 1 1/16-mile allowance race on May 8 at Hollywood. Prior to that, the son of Flying Chevron finished third in the California Derby.
