Millionaire Almutawakel, winner of the 1999 Dubai World Cup (UAE-I), injured his right stifle while galloping in his paddock at Sheikh Hamdan's Derrinstown Stud in Ireland. He was sent for X rays to Troytown Veterinary Clinic near Kildare and a decision will be made later as to whether an operation is needed. The injury is a fracture and not a break.

One thing is just about certain and that is the 7-year-old son of Machiavellian will not cover any more mares this year and that includes the ones he was booked to at Haunui Farm in New Zealand. Almutawakel's first foals are on the grounds.

Almutawakel, who was produced from the Green Desert mare Elfaslah, has been fully booked since his retirement.
