Business Down During Weanling Portion of New Zealand Mixed Sale

The weanling portion of New Zealand Bloodstock's national mixed sale ended on Monday with downturns from the previous year. The 226 weanlings sold grossed $2,033,250 (approximately $923,096 in U.S. funds) and averaged $7,644 ($3,470). In 2001, the gross and average established sale records for weanlings of $2,149,500 and $9,596, respectively.

The top price of $90,000 ($40,860) was brought by a Carnegie filly produced from Australian group III winner Solop Performance. The filly is a half-sister to Australian group II winner Solo Show and Australian stakes winner Clout. New Zealand Bloodstock purchased the filly on the behalf of an Australian client.

The clearance rate reached a very healthy level of 81%, the same selling rate as last year.

Following the weanling portion, the sale continued with yearlings, 2-year-olds, untried stock, racehorses, and the first of the broodmares being offered.

The top-priced yearling price an $18,000 ($8,172) gelding by Kashani out of Blue Waltz. He was purchased by New Zealand Bloodstock as agent for a Malaysian client.

Top price among the 2-year-olds was the $13,000 ($5,902), given by Neville Atkins of Auckland a gelding by Groom Dancer--Lady Paree gelding.

Among untried stock, a King's Theatre --Track Appeal filly fetched the top price of $7,000 ($3,178) from Greg Marcus of Australia.

The top-priced racehorse was Centennial, a stakes-winning daughter of Centaine who was purchased by Kieran Moore Bloodstock for $16,000 ($7,264).

The first 60 of the 325 broodmares catalogued were offered. The top price was the $48,000 ($21,792) given by Endeavour Capital for Amber Ace, who was stakes-placed as a 2-year-old. .Her first foal is a colt by Cape Cross and she was sold in foal to O' Reilly.
